We’ll Explore The History And Mystery (Along With Some Greek Secrets), which makes Tarpon Springs a One Of A Kind Community.
While I was born in the wilds of the Amazon my Tarpon Roots run deep. My father’s family hailed from two small islands in Greece, Halki and Symi. My Papou (grandfather) Dimitrios J Tsalickis was one of those sponge divers which made Tarpon famous and my YiaYia (grandmother) Maria is the mother of St. Michael’s Shrine, one of the major religious sights in our small town. My dad’s adventuring spirit took him to South America where he became a leading exporter of exotic animals and he specialized in providing nature tours along the Amazon in Colombia, Brazil and Peru. Both my parents taught me to be proud of my Greek lineage and revel in the uniqueness of Tarpon Springs.
On our walking tours, I share with you the best of both worlds: “old” Tarpon with it’s rich multi-cultural past along with a vibrant “new” Tarpon, a community which celebrates it’s Greek ‘old fishing (and sponging) village’ lifestyle. Come join me for a pleasant walk into our past!
